Recently I was sitting having coffee with my financial planner, Christian, and he was expressing his desire to have a nap. Come to think of it, one of the most common responses from my patients to “How are you doing today?” is, “I’m exhausted!” It appears as though there is a recurring theme; sleep deprivation. Now, all of these individuals feel they have very valid reasons for their mounting sleep debt; they have recently entered into parenthood, they are a student cramming for an exam, a shift worker, a truck driver, and the list goes on, and on, and on.
My question then is, “if you knew why you needed a good quality eight hours of sleep, would you still deprive yourself of it?” Thus began my research to answer that very question. I think most, if not all, would give a resounding “NO!” so please read of my article below to remind yourself of just why we need sleep in the first place.
Check in next week to learn some easy tips on how to improve your sleep hygiene (and no, I don’t mean having a shower before heading to bed, unless of course that helps you sleep better!)
In good health,
