What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the placement of thin needles at specific points on the body. Acupuncture treatments are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory, which is based on 3000 years of wisdom, knowledge and experience. The body has 14 regular and 8 extra-ordinary energy pathways that flow in and out of the body. Acupuncture points are situated along these channels to interconnect them with the internal organ systems and the anatomical body structures where pain, discomfort, and illness are found. The human body is an amazing organic in that it is always seeking health. The needles are placed at specific points to open the channels being affected, in order to assist the body’s natural healing process to take place.

Reasons to seek out a Registered Acupuncturist ?

Regular Acupuncture treatments open the body’s energy channels, improve circulation of blood, water, and Qi (energy) to bring the body back into balance so the body can heal. As the seasons change, our working environments adjust in temperature and airflow; it can be difficult for our bodies to adhere to these changes positively.

Registered Acupuncturists attend up to 4 years or 1900 hours of focused education to learn Chinese Medicine Theory and the practical skills required. Upon completion, write and perform competency board exams to earn a license to practice. The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia is the regulatory body. Each year, licensed Acupuncturists are required to perform continuing education credits to keep skills and knowledge current.
